How Did They Make Their Dishes?

Pottery was made from clay (dirt) dug up from the area surrounding the village and along the river bank. The side of the pots were built up by attaching one coil of clay to another. The insides were smoothed with a shell. The outside coils were blended together with a cord-wrapped paddle.

Decorative designs were added using a bone awl or stick. The pot was then dried and baked in a fire hearth.
